    LL.M.

For the internet-based test (iBT), we require a total score of at least 100, with at least 25 in each of the four subsections. For the paper-based test (PBT), we require a score of at least 600, with at least 60 in each of the three subsections and at least 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE).

Stanford Law School course work and related academic activities require written and spoken fluency in English. A minimum TOEFL score of 100 (internet-based test) or 620 (paper-based test) is required for admission.

TOEFL iBT: 105 overall score, with 26 on Reading and Listening sections and 24 on the Speaking and Writing sections; Paper-based exam: 620 overall score, with 59/60 on the Structure/Writing and Reading sections, 60/61 on the Listening section, and 5.0 on the TWE.

The Law School requires that all applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within two years of the date of their application. A minimum total score of 104 overall on the TOEFL is required. Only the Internet-based version of the TOEFL may be used. Minimum required scores on the IELTS are an overall score of 7 and sub scores of 7 each. Applicants will not be offered admission if their TOEFL or IELTS scores do not meet these minimum standards. Most admitted LL.M. applicants will have substantially higher scores.

The Committee requires that applicants who take the TOEFL achieve a minimum total score of at least 100, a minimum score of 26 on the reading and listening subsections, and a minimum score of 22 on the writing and speaking subsections. For applicants who take the IELTS, the Committee requires a minimum overall band score of at least a 7. Because this is the first year in which NYU Law accepts IELTS, no subsection minimums will be established for this test. However, the Committee will look for applicants who achieve a score of at least 7 on most of the subsections (listening, reading, writing, and speaking).

In general, we look for a TOEFL score of at least 250 (CBT)/ 600 (WBT) /100 (IBT) or IELTS score of 7. However, a lower score does not automatically preclude an applicant from consideration for Penn Law’s LLM program. Applicants whose test score(s) falls below the targets set forth above, should feel free to highlight any specific issues in the personal statement portion of their application they feel might strengthen their application in this regard, such as time spent in English language environments, coursework done in English, English language publications, etc. It is also recommended that applicants with scores lower than those set forth above, submit at least one recommendation that addresses, at least in part their English language ability.

For all those required to take the TOEFL exam, the minimum scores we look for are:

Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT):
Writing: 24
Speaking: 22
Reading: 26
Listening: 26

The minimum score required for admission is:
100 on the TOEFL internet based test (IBT), or
600 on the TOEFL paper based test (PBT), or
7.0 on the IELTS

Current official TOEFL or IELTS scores unless both of the following are true: (1) the applicant is a native speaker of English, and (2) the university education was conducted primarily in English. Students in our graduate degree programs must have a high level of English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The minimum required scores are: 600 (PBT), 250 (CBT) and a TWE of 4.0, or 98 (iBT), or 7.0 on the academic IELTS test. Most admitted students have higher scores.

A TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test, 100 on the Internet-based test (or 250 on the computer-based test) is the minimum normally required for admission. If the score is slightly less than the minimum required, other factors may be taken into consideration. Duke's TOEFL institution code is 5156 and our department code is 03.

What is the minimum recommended score for the TOEFL examination
The minimum for the computer-based exam is 250 and for the internet-based exam the score is 100. We do not accept the paper-based TOEFL.

A minimum overall TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (Internet-based) is required to be considered for admission. The official score report must be received prior to the applicable deadline for an application to be considered.

Accepted applicants whose TOEFL scores are between 550 and 600 (paper-based), between 213 and 250 (computer-based, or between 79 and 100 (Internet-based)) must take the English placement test given at Cornell during registration week.

If the placement score indicates that you need additional formal training in English, a course will be required during the first semester.

Applicants must submit a TOEFL score report if English is not the applicant's native language. Applicants to Georgetown should present a score exceeding 100 points on the internet-based TOEFL exam (with minimum scores of 25 in each of the four sections) or 600 on the paper-based TOEFL exam (with minimum scores of 60 in each of the three sections). Although the TOEFL test is preferred, applicants may submit IELTS test scores in place of TOEFL. A minimum overall score of 7.5 on the IELTS is required, with at least 7.0 in each section of the test.

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required of foreign applicants seeking admission to the program from nations in which English is not the primary language of instruction. A TOEFL score of 590 on the paper-based test, 243 on the computer-based test, or 96 on the Internet-based test is the minimum score accepted by the University's Graduate Division. The Law School usually admits only applicants whose TOEFL scores are well above the minimum range required by the University. In general we expect a score of 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the Internet-based test, although an outstanding applicant with a slightly lower test score will not be disqualified on this basis

USC Gould School of Law requires that applicants who are not native English speakers, or who do not hold a law degree from an institution at which English is the primary language of instruction, submit a TOEFL score. Applicants should submit their TOEFL scores through LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (CAS). LSAC’s institutional code is 8395. USC's TOEFL institutional code is 4852 and the department code is 03. Test scores are valid for two years from the date taken. We recommend a TOEFL score of 100 on the internet-based test or 250 on computer-based test.
